“Extreme poverty anywhere is a threat to human security everywhere.” — Kofi Annan, Seventh Secretary-General of the United Nations
Unquestionably, the poor people chant has become extremely loud and can lead to hearing loss. There is too much noise without any action.
The role of a government is the development and improvement of the lives of its citizens. As a consequence, they are expecting to see tangible results. Undoubtedly, of late poor people are being transformed into “gold dust.” Additionally, they are looked upon as the key to the politicians winning the 2021 General Election.
Clearly, this behavior is painful to watch. The now-infamous “poor people chant” is alive and well. Where is the dignity and respect that is rightfully due to the poor people of Saint Lucia? It has been five years! Above all, please help me in understanding the rationale behind this module of reasoning! Obviously, their needs did not magically disappear into thin air!
Nonetheless, this form of brainwashing is the secret weapon of most politicians, which must be stopped immediately.
An individual does not have to be in government, to enhance the lives of the people. If the people’s best interest were the focal point, politicians would have done everything within their power to ensure “poor people” needs are being met. Politicians seeking to form the next government would have appeared very impressive and attractive. It would have been to their benefit if they could have shown the electorate what they have done for the “poor people” while not in the elective office!
It is also a known fact that it takes a village to raise a child. A collective approach must be adopted, ensuring those who are less fortunate are duly assisted.

- Health Sector Reform
- Constitutional Reform
